We understand that university life can be financially challenging, and rising energy bills only add to the burden. That’s why we’re excited to tell you about Kuppa, a free digital advice tool being piloted by City of Wolverhampton Council, designed to help you implement low-cost, high-impact energy saving measures, and even access £100 to cover the cost of these.
Kuppa is a digital tool that helps Wolverhampton residents to reduce bills by implementing energy saving measures in their homes. All you need to get started is your postcode and a spare 5 minutes.
With Kuppa, you can assess your energy consumption and identify areas where you can make simple yet impactful changes. Kuppa uses publicly available data, such as your building’s EPC, and your answers to its questions, to build a picture of your energy usage.
Kuppa recommends low-cost, high-impact energy-saving measures that are easy to implement in your student accommodation or private rented housing, without requiring landlord permission. You’ll learn what you could save by making simple changes, such as adding thermal curtains or blind backing, or using electric blankets.
Students living in Park and St Peter’s Wards will be signposted by Kuppa to the Household Support Fund, a grant being offered by the Council to cover the cost of low-cost, high-impact measures. Register at https://grantapproval.co.uk/ to access the Household Support Fund.
You will need to prove your address but can bypass requests for Council Tax reference numbers if you are not registered by typing 000000. Contact the Grants Team via the link on Grant Approval if you have any issues.
Once you have been approved for the grant, £100 will arrive in your bank account within 10 working days. You will not be asked for any receipts or proof of what you have spent this on.
This map shows you the boundaries of Park and St Peters’ wards. If you live outside these boundaries, the council may still be able to support you, and Kuppa will signpost you to the right place.
